When I was doing a home stay in Japan in my high school years, I really got into the old takenoko. It was so yummy, and so unlike anything I had ever tasted before - and, it seemed a great way to get my fibre intake. But, I'm not sure whether it was cause I ate too much, or whether the batch that I ate was no good, but one particular time that I was fed takenoko, I ended up hurling into a bucket for several hours after the meal. It made me very very sick, which was a shame, as it has tainted bamboo shoots forever in my mind - kind of like when you have a bad night out, on a certain type of alcohol, and you never touch it again.

After reading this, I might just give it a shot again though! Let's see.
