Very cool and very interesting place to visit! I've created a map of cool places to visit in Tokyo:
http://www.mapme.com/map/tokyoneighbourhoods
Maybe you'd like to add these spots and photos to the map?

Hey, great article! one question though: you said

"Last summer it was tough work to find a half decent beer garden downtown that didn’t have a 1-2 hour waiting list on a Friday night."

Care to share *any* beer gardens that are worth visiting? Not found one decent one yet :(

I am from Chile and when I was a child my mom would tell me not to go around bare feet. I do not why but she thought that would make me sick. I could not even wear socks. When grown up I went everywhere bare feet and nothing happened. Strange. Nice post!

I dunno about that Kirai. I was in Hamarikyu on the weekend and passed a very odd "couple". The guy was an otaku from hell sporting a camera with a one foot long lens. The girl was dressed up like something from sailor moon and was making pussy cat faces to him in the flower garden. I tell you, I felt very much as though I was in Tokyo.

Can someone tell me why school play grounds in Japan are not made of grass in the first place? Doesn't it kinda hurt playing soccer on rubble when you fall over?
