Actually Ben, there was no April Fool's joke here. Admitedly, it wouldn't have surprised me if JAL did come out and say that it was but it turns out to be true (I even tested the system yesterday and managed to record my oneworld miles on a JAL flight!) Sorry that we didn't come up with anything interesting for April Fool - but I was keen to publish this to time with the One World announcement. All of the inside scoop on the management fights is true and (unfortunately) not an April Fool's joke. Any gaijin out there who have worked for JAL?

Yes, I initially thought this was April fools too, but it seems not. A visit to the oneworld Japanese homepage certainly shows that JAL did join (again) on April 1.

Hmm.. Ben, do you know something we don't?

OK I think I need the April Fools joke explained.

Interesting article though. I didn't know working in Ginza was a way up the corporate ladder in Japan. Maybe I'll have to rethink my career path

This is good news, but I avoid flying JAL at all costs these days. It is not just because they are indecisive, or because they have had a recent spate of crashes, their service is also lousy. I used to fly them a lot back in the 90's, but something has happened to their "guraho" (nice word by the way!) service, and their in-flight service. Your article explains what the problem may be. If the suits in the boardroom are bickering, how can anyone ever expect the wetbags on the ground, and the air waitresses to try their best.

I stick with ANA any day for domestic flights, and almost any other airline for my international preference (except QANTAS, who's service is about twice as bad as JAL's).
