What I can't understand is why politicians don't get grilled for this sort of thing in the newspapers and other media. I find it disturbing that I am reading about the finer (more dodgy) points of Aso on a site like this. Why dont the big media do the same analysis, and draw the same conclusions as you? You would think this would make a fantastic article in mainstream Japanese news - even if he is doing all this legally, at least raising the legality of it would make people notice it, and maybe even push their local politicians to change the legislature on disclosure. Any ideas?

Well if he'd bought a Toyota at least he'd have done something for the economy. The guy claims to be in touch with the general public but he wasn't ever elected to his post and therefore obviously doesn't feel any kind of burden of accountability. And you know how it is here: Once you've been a PM, you get the title "former PM" (元総理大臣, moto so-ridaijin) for the rest of your life. Even dorks like Mori who was also unelected and never even stood for reelection. It purely comes down to personal ambition for these guys, and to hell with the rest of us.
